Cruising to Mundi Mundi
You have seen the posts on Facebook, Instagram and other social media platforms. You have observed and heard all about the fun and excitement that other travellers and friends are having or have had at the Mundi Mundi Bash. Now the question is, should you be brave and go to experience the fun first hand? Many others, ourselves, included would definitely say "yes, do it". Camping, firepits, plenty of music and laughter to have with friends, family and even newly made friends.
Entering the Mundi Mundi 'Township' |
So where is this place? you ask Well, it is around 12km from Silverton, New South Wales, on Belmont Station on the Mundi Mundi Plains. It is a working sheep station when not hosting the music festival. Situated on the western side of the Barrier Ranges. Be prepared for wind as there is not many trees to stop or hinder the wind from blowing across the plains. Once there you have your site, which is marked out with pegs and flags, there is no power or water, the only power and water you have is your own. Whether it be by generator, solar or fire. Water is what you bring with you also, for drinking and washing. Though some people use wet wipes for a temporary bath till they leave. Yes, there are rules to follow, which is all on the Official Mundi website. As this is a working sheep station, please keep that in mind when disposing of your rubbish and food scrapes. Glass is really a "take it with you " type of rubbish.
Growing Mundi township |
We had always wanted to join other campers at events like this. Getting together camping and having a great time, meeting new people and seeing what others have done with their style of set ups. Someone stated that it was a caravan and camping show without the salespeople. Though the best part of Mundi is the music along with fellow campers all singing and dancing. There is a variety of music to be heard for all ages. The best part is you can hear it from all over the campground no matter how far away from the concert area you are. So, you can relax in your camp area, enjoy a beverage of choice, chat and listen to whomever is playing music at that time.
Our campsite |
The Crack up sisters have fun and games for the children and adult alike This year there was a sensory tent that was awesome to see. (I will let you find that one out for yourselves). Walkway tunnel ball with different sized balls, all the way to the back of the concert area. Many people like to get involved in that one and there are many laughs and giggles.
We have met people from all over Australia, like us many who travelled thousands of kilometres just to attend the festival. It is totally up to you what you do while at Mundi - the food you take to eat or buy food from the various vendors. Whether you purchase a trinket or goods from the other stall holders or not. The idea is to enjoy the music and conversation around the camp site or sitting next to someone you do not know and chatting about all sorts of things.
Amazing Camel rides at Sunset. |
The atmosphere is electric when the musicians hit the stage, and the music begins to play. People go to the mosh pit to dance and sing along with the performers. While others are happy to sit in the concert area and enjoy the music, have a beverage and food of their choosing and chat with whomever they are with or sitting next to. It is your choice what you do for your time there. Remember it is all about the music, good times and enjoyment of life.
There are also yoga classes at sunrise if you would like to keep up the exercise, while others simply walk, jog or run around the campground, which is a fair distance.
Nut bush attempt |
Every day there is an activity to join. The money raised from the tickets you purchase go to fund raising for The Royal Flying Doctors through the Nut Bush world record attempt. Which adds to the fun. People dress up in all sorts of costumes even Mad Max/ Tina Turner costumes for the event. This year, 2024, saw many people dress in blue for Mental health, Big Blue Day. We all stood with in a template of Australia and broke a world record for this too. There is also the Mundi Undie run, that see entrants dress up for this as well. It can be interesting to see the variety of costumes adorned for this event. The idea is to have massive amounts of fun and enjoy your time there and raise money for what matters.
The undie run |
I must not forget to mention the beautiful sunrises and sunsets that come over the hills and plains. It sure makes you wonder about the beauty of our country, and I for one never get tired of seeing the beautiful colours that adorn the sky. Our last sunset at Mundi saw people from all over the camp walk up to the back of the township just to watch the sun set over the plains. Many came with chairs, camera and a beverage. Though once the sun set the cold crept in and many went back to their campsite. Music, fire, drinks, food and friends what more could you want while camping. This is an awesome experience, and we certainly are very happy to have experienced it twice. We found it both fun and rewarding to know that you can help others and enjoy your time at Mundi camping with music. In time we may do the pilgrimage again to the plains.
While in the area and/or waiting for Mundi to start don't forget to visit the townships of Silverton and Broken Hill. Both have some places to experience and see. Musuems, shopping, cafes and tourist places to visit.
🐸🐸 When you decide to make the journey to Mundi, what will your experience and memories be of your time there?
